This is a grant-making program for the arts, culture and creative sector to help kickstart or continue to implement a new idea. This is an ongoing grant program providing $1,000 to artists, creatives, producers, performers, creative industries, makers and artisans who are living, working or studying in the City of Ballarat. Administered by Regional Arts Victoria on behalf of the City of Ballarat, with three grant rounds throughout the 2022/2023 financial year, the Creative Inspiration Grant is about supporting tactical thinking, new ideas, simply overcoming obstacles to getting a project started or maintaining creative momentum.
The intent of the Creative Inspiration Grant is a deliberate seed fund, designed to ‘nurture the spark of creativity’ which is one of the central themes of the Creative City Strategy. The City of Ballarat knows that it is the small micro-enterprise who is often the most tenacious and determined to establish itself. The artist or maker who is looking for a toehold to get started, or who needs an injection of funding to deal with an obstacle, is a powerhouse of energy. We want to support that energy, and give it strength to help survive.
What’s involved?
The grant is open to individuals, businesses, associations and organisations.
You must be living, working or studying in the City of Ballarat postcodes (3350 to 3358).
Applicants are required to make an application for the fund using the Smartygrants online application process.
Applicants must have an ABN to apply, or have an appropriate auspice
Three individual funding rounds will be offered over the twelve month period. You can resubmit an application if a previous application has been unsuccessful.
How frequently will the grants be available?
The Creative Inspiration Grant is available year-round, with three grant rounds planned for 2023/24. Simply apply through the Smartygrants online application process and your application will be reviewed by the experienced team at Regional Arts Victoria. If you’re successful in securing a grant, you can apply once in every twelve month period.
Who will you Fund?
We are looking to fund creative individuals and organisations, whether you’re a commercial business or a not-for-profit, in one of our identified creative sectors. If you don’t have an ABN you’ll need to find someone to auspice you.
IMPORTANT! Please note that if successful with the Creative Inspiration grant, you will be ineligible for other City of Ballarat funding for the same project. Projects/events funded by any City of Ballarat funding stream will be ineligible to have Creative Inspiration Grant for the same program.
What will you fund?
Anything! We’re looking to support your creative idea - and we want to know how supporting you and your creative idea will deliver great things for the City of Ballarat and our wider creative ecology. But we recognise, your idea is your intellectual property! So we make sure the process is confidential and secure.
My idea isn’t new, will you still consider it?
Yes. We understand that sometimes it can take a few attempts to get a good idea off the ground. Tell us about your idea and the obstacles
you’ve faced, and we will evaluate it.
