Ray Pereira has established a reputation as one of Australia’s leading percussionists and educators. In 2001 Ray received an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for his contribution to music in Australia.

Ray specialises in Afro Cuban and West Africa drumming styles and will be a running a rhythm workshop open to all interested musicians and non-musicians alike.

Ray will demonstrate his ideas on African polyrhythms using a variety of African drums and percussion instruments.

This session will be suitable for drummers who will learn the different parts of a traditional African rhythm and also for other musicians who will learn how to transfer Ray’s rhythmic ideas onto their own instruments, enhancing their knowledge of polyrhythm, phrasing and soloing.

Ray is a skilled teacher who can teach participants of all levels of experience.
