James Jamison - Niimori Jamison Architects.

James Jamison is one half of the architecture practice Niimori Jamison Architects. James is based in Ballarat with his co-director, Yudai Niimori, located in Japan. Having met while studying architecture in Switzerland and under international, award winning architects, James and Yudai share a passion for detailed and atmospheric design. Niimori Jamison Architects work across the residential, commercial, institutional and interior architecture sectors with projects completed in Switzerland, India, Australia and Japan.

· When did your interest in architecture begin?

In high school, somewhere between art and woodwork classes.

 ·  Tell us about the beginnings of Niimori Jamison Architects and your practice?

Yudai and I met while studying at USI in Switzerland. We wanted to practice in our own countries, while collaborating and influencing each other from afar.

·  What are you working on right now?

A church to residence conversion in Ballarat East and a yoga studio in Melbourne.

 ·  What do you most enjoy about your work?

The cross disciplinary nature of architecture and the pursuit of creating something beautiful.

 ·  What is your connection to Ballarat?

I went to high school here.

·  How would you describe the creative community in Ballarat?

Vocal and inclusive.

·  Can you give us three words that sum up your inspiration?

Atmosphere, context, landscape.
